Sailing the Abacos
The Abacos Islands in the Bahamas is one of those destinations that is best experienced by boat. Preferably with a boat powered by the wind and a captain who’s adept at dropping anchor in remote, mangrove-lined beaches. Toss in an island that’s solely inhabited by shipwrecked pigs and you’ve got an experience that you’ll never forget.
In December, 2107, I chartered this catamaran with seven friends. We provisioned up at Marsh Harbor and set sail for ten days making up our own route and schedule along the way. I’m no stranger to nomadic travel, but for me, this kind of freedom on the open ocean was unprecedented.
